Privacy and data policy

Version 1.0.4 · Last updated 29 October 2026

ScrollStop has no internet permission. There is no account, no analytics and no server. This page explains exactly what the app can see, what it stores on your phone, and what it never touches.

The short version

  • No internet permission. The app cannot open a connection, so nothing can be uploaded, sold or leaked.
  • No account, no ads, no analytics, no crash reporting. There is nothing to sign in to and nothing measuring you.
  • No permissions at all. Not storage, not camera, not location, not contacts, not usage access, not overlays.
  • One thing it needs: Android's accessibility service, so it can tell when a Reels or Shorts player is on screen. It looks only inside the six apps you switch on.
  • Everything it remembers stays on your phone — your switches and a block counter. Uninstalling erases it.

Privacy policy

This policy covers the ScrollStop Android app (package dev.virat.scrollstop) and this website. It is written to be read, not skimmed past. If something here is unclear, ask — the contact address is at the bottom.

What the app is

ScrollStop is a local utility. When a full-screen Reels or Shorts player opens in an app you enabled, it presses Back (or the action you chose) and nothing else. It does not modify other apps, does not draw over them, and does not run a VPN.

Permissions

The APK declares no Android permissions. Not even INTERNET. That is verifiable from the file itself with aapt2 dump permissions ScrollStop-1.0.4.apk, which prints the package name and no permission lines.

PermissionUsed?Why not
Internet / networkNoNo server, no sync, no update check.
Storage / photos / mediaNoNothing is read or written outside the app's private folder.
LocationNoNever requested.
Camera / microphoneNoNever requested.
Contacts / SMS / call logNoNever requested.
Usage access / device adminNoNot needed; nothing is enforced at system level.
Display over other appsNoThe app presses a key instead of drawing an overlay.
NotificationsNoThere is no foreground service and nothing to notify.

The accessibility service

Android gives no other way for an app to know which screen is in front, so ScrollStop uses an accessibility service. That is the same API screen readers use, and it is the reason Android shows a warning when you enable it. Here is the exact scope:

  • What it receives: window and content-change events, which carry the package name of the app in front and the view ids inside it.
  • What it looks for: the view id of a full-screen Reels or Shorts player, and whether that view actually covers the screen.
  • What it ignores: every app you did not switch on. WhatsApp is not in the list at all, so it is never inspected.
  • What it never does: read text, read what you type, read messages, take screenshots, record the screen, or store any screen content. No node text is read or logged.
  • How to stop it: turn the switch off in the app, or Settings → Accessibility → ScrollStop → off. Blocking stops immediately.

What is stored on your phone

Only preferences, in the app's private storage (SharedPreferences file scrollstop). Nothing is encrypted because nothing sensitive is kept, and no other app can read this folder.

StoredWhat it is
App switchesWhich of the six apps you enabled.
ActionClose player / exit app / lock screen.
One-reel modeOn or off.
Blocked appsThe package names you chose to keep out of.
CountersHow many times a reel was closed today and per app, kept for seven days.

What is never collected

No name, email, phone number, account, device identifier, advertising id, location, contacts, messages, photos, browsing history, keystrokes, screen recordings or crash reports. There is no SDK, no tracker and no third-party library in the APK — it is Kotlin and Android's own APIs.

Sharing and selling

Nothing is shared or sold, because nothing leaves the device. There is no company, server or database behind the app to share it with.

Children

The app collects no personal data from anyone, including children. There is no age gate because there is no data to protect behind one.

Your rights

Data-protection laws give you the right to access, correct, export and delete personal data. ScrollStop holds none off your device, so there is nothing to request from a server. On your phone you can:

  • Clear the counters and preferences: Settings → Apps → ScrollStop → Storage → Clear storage.
  • Delete everything: uninstall the app. The private folder goes with it.
  • Stop processing: turn off the accessibility service.

Data policy

This section is the data-processing summary in plain terms: what is processed, why, where it lives, how long, and who can see it.

DataWhyWhere / how long
Package name of the app in frontTo know whether the app is one you enabledIn memory only, for the moment of the check. Not stored.
View ids on the current screenTo recognise a full-screen Reels/Shorts playerIn memory only, during the check. Not stored or logged.
Your switches and action choiceSo the app behaves the way you set itPrivate app storage until you change it or uninstall.
Block countersTo show "3 blocked today"Private app storage, kept for the last seven days.
  • Purpose limitation: the accessibility data is used only to decide whether to press Back. It is not used for profiling, advertising or analytics.
  • No transfer: there is no network permission, so no transfer — national or international — can happen.
  • No automated decisions with legal effect. The only decision is a Back press inside an app you asked to be interrupted in.
  • No third parties: no processors, no SDKs, no advertising partners.
  • Security: the app runs inside Android's app sandbox; its storage is private to it. The APK is signed, and you can verify the signature before installing (below).

This website

This site is a static page hosted on Vercel. It sets no cookies, loads no analytics, no fonts and no scripts from third parties. The only external link is the WhatsApp share button, which opens WhatsApp with a pre-filled message — that leaves this site and is covered by WhatsApp's own policy.

Like any web host, Vercel keeps standard access logs (IP address, user agent, requested file, timestamp) to serve and protect the site. ScrollStop does not read, combine or sell those logs. Vercel's own privacy terms apply to them.

If you email the address below, your message and address are used only to answer you.

Verify the APK

Every build is signed with the same release key, so updates install over each other without uninstalling. Compare these values with the file you downloaded:

On a computer with Android build tools: apksigner verify --print-certs ScrollStop-1.0.4.apk prints the certificate digest, and aapt2 dump permissions ScrollStop-1.0.4.apk prints the package with no permissions.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever starts doing something new with data, this page will say so before that version ships, and the version number at the top will change. There is no mailing list to notify you, so the page itself is the record.
